It is intended to serve as the institute's single platform for integrating knowledge, capabilities and innovative metrology techniques, quality and testing systems, to produce highly efficient and reliable results while ensuring metrological traceability of R + D + i results. It provides the necessary data for decision support and aims to address many current issues faced by laboratories and testing centres. The project is developed across the following action areas: (a) Automation of quality assurance for measurements according to ISO/IEC 17043 standard; (b) Automation of data capture and analysis of calibration procedures for the Metrology and Calibration Centre (CMC) and various tests; (c) Digital services for remote auditing of measurement and testing services in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17043 standards; (d) Evolution towards the flexibility and expansion of parameterization of the different modules to facilitate implementation in any type of INTA and Ministry of Defence (MoD) laboratories.Publicación Acceso Abierto Digitalization of a calibration laboratory: Batch calibration(Elsevier, 2024-12-22) Perez Sanz, Fernando; Larroca Sanz, Rebeca; Mohíno Herranz, Inmaculada; García Gallegos, Jaime; Vicente Mussons, Tomás; Benyon Puig, RobertThe Metrology and Calibration Centre (CMC) at the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) has introduced an innovative tool designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of calibration processes within its facilities. This cutting-edge software enables technicians to conduct multiple calibrations simultaneously, provided the requisite experimental setup is in place. Developed with a focus on streamlining the entire calibration workflow, from data acquisition to certificate issuance, the software ensures compliance with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. Through rigorous testing, the CMC verified the software's performance using devices employed for monitoring ambient conditions (temperature and humidity) across various INTA test laboratories. Notably, these devices underwent batch calibration in groups of six, resulting in a sixfold reduction in experimentation time. Although the associated paperwork was reduced, the necessity to maintain traceability and issue individual calibration certificates for each device offsets the time savings.Publicación Acceso Abierto Digitalization of on-site characterization of climatic chambers(Elsevier, 2024-12-27) García Gallegos, Jaime; Benyon Puig, Robert; Perez Sanz, Fernando; Mohíno Herranz, Inmaculada; Vicente Mussons, TomásThe implementation of a software tool applied to the characterization of climatic chambers is presented and discussed. INTA took part in the design and development of the algorithms for the automatic identification of stabilization periods of physical parameters measured based on defined acceptance criteria and the application of mathematical and statistical analysis for the interpretation of the results obtained. The new operational procedure implemented at INTA is presented as an innovation in the service offered by the laboratory to its clients, allowing them to improve the efficiency of their production processes. It enables the remote calibration of climatic chambers and other thermal facilities of the Institute in different locations in Spain, without the need to move calibration technicians, resulting in increased efficiency in the use of human resources and cost savings.Ítem Acceso Abierto On the characterization of an AHF cavity radiometer and its traceability to WRR/SI(CIEMAT, 2022-02-10) Balenzategui Manzanares, J. C.; Fabero, Fernando; Silva, José Pedro; Mejuto, Eduardo; Ibañez, F.J.; Ministerio de Industria, Economía y CompetitividadIn a complementary way to the comparison to WSG to get traceability to WRR (and consequently, to SI), a solar-type cavity radiometer can also be characterized, determining the deviations of the instrument from the ideal realization of the principle of electrical substitution and obtaining its total measurement uncertainty. This work summarizes different techniques and procedures applied for the characterization of an Eppley AHF radiometer. The approach for characterization is based on the analysis of the measurement model function of the instrument. Some results obtained from calibration and testing (voltmeter, area of the precision aperture, resistance of the leads, non equivalence factor), and from numerical simulation (effective absorptance, scattering) are presented. The aim of the ILC was first and foremost to gain knowledge later used in developing guidelines for air thermometry, particularly within the realm of calibration and dissemination of the temperature scale. While the ILC protocol asked the participants to report a set of main data that followed a rather strict formular, they were also encouraged to perform different characterisation experiments and to explore different strategies for calibration. The idea was to have a set of common baseline data and analyse them in a traditional ILC framework, but at the same time gather exploratory data that could help advance the knowledge in air temperature metrology. The results were intended to be used as input to guidance documents for the calibration of thermometers for air temperature measurements, and possibly to some initial best practice guides for practical air thermometry in the field.Publicación Restringido The Calibration of Data Loggers for the Characterization of Sterilization Autoclaves(Springer Link, 2011-10-16) Benyon Puig, Robert; de Lucas Veguillas, Javier; Elvira, Gregorio; Fuentes, H.An experimental setup established for the calibration of temperature and pressure data loggers for use in the characterization of autoclaves and steam sterilizers is described. The results obtained on two devices in the range of 25 °C to 125 °C at absolute pressures from 100 kPa to 375 kPa are presented and discussed in the context of the manufacturer’s specifications and their suitability for on-site characterization of the temperature and pressure conditions during the normal operational cycles. The recommendations on the calibration of these devices and the estimation of the contributions to the expanded uncertainty of measurement for the characterization of autoclaves are addressed.Publicación Acceso Abierto Uncertainty in the Calibration Transfer of Solar Irradiance Scale: From Absolute Cavity Radiometers to Standard Pyrheliometers(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2022-04-02) Balenzategui, José Lorenzo; Molero García, María; Silva, José Pedro; Fabero, Fernando; Cuenca, José; Mejuto, Eduardo; de Lucas Veguillas, JavierIn this work, the method for calculation of uncertainty of pyrheliometers’ responsivity during their outdoor calibration process in the laboratory is exposed. It is applied first for calibration of standard pyrheliometers by comparison to cavity radiometers, and after for calibration of an end-user pyrheliometer against that standard pyrheliometer. The dissemination of the WRR irradiance scale is illustrated in practice and the increasing uncertainty in the traceability chain is quantified. The way of getting traceability to both WRR scale and to SI units in the current situation, where the shift between these radiometric scales is pending to be solved, is also explained. However, the impact of this gap between scales seems to be more important for calibrations of reference Class A pyrheliometers than in the final determination of DNI irradiance, because in this case, the cumulative uncertainty is large enough as to not significantly be affected for the difference. The way to take into account different correction terms in the measurement model function, and how to compute the corresponding uncertainty, is explained too. The influence of temperature of some pyrheliometers during calibration process and the potential impact on the DNI irradiance calculated with these instruments is exemplified.
